It was a massive win for Glenn Maxwell’s side in the last game against the Adelaide Strikers. They not only avenged the loss against the Strikers earlier with this 111-run victory but have also brightened their prospects for a place in the playoff stage of the tournament.
With two wins in their 10 games so far Aaron Finch’s side is almost out of contention for a spot in the playoffs. It was yet another poor show from the side in their last game against the Brisbane Heat which they lost by 5 wickets. Batting just hasn’t worked for the side so far in the season as all their key players have failed to show consistency.
Pitch Report:
The MCG pitch should have something in it for the spinners, as Adam Zampa picked up a fifer earlier in the BBL week. The large dimensions of the ground should allow spinners to operate with a bit of freedom. The pacers could get the ball to move around a bit although off-pace deliveries could be key as the match progresses.
Although the nature of the pitch may not change much, both teams could look to bat first and make first use of the conditions. Anything around 160-165 runs should be a good total, as wickets in hand is often the key at the MCG.
Weather Conditions:
The pitch at the Melbourne Cricket Ground has always been pretty even with something in it for both the batsmen and the bowlers. It’s quite hard early on and helps the batsmen but tends to slow down as the game progresses. Spin bowlers will find good purchase from the surface in the second innings. The weather forecast for Melbourne on the day of the game is pleasant and clear.
Toss Prediction:
The team winning the toss is likely to bat first as it was evident in the last match here that getting runs on the board after batting first is a huge advantage.
