Maharaja T20 Trophy 2022: All You Need to know

The Maharaja T20 Trophy 2022 will start on August 7 with six teams representing Bengaluru, Mysore, Hubli, Shivamogga, Raichur, and Mangalore. The event is launched by Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the upcoming T20 Cricket tournament is organized in the memory of the former President of KSCA and Maharaja of Mysore. The major reason behind the launch of the marquee T20 tournament is to offer the young and aspiring cricketers a platform to shine. 

The match will start at Mysore on August 7 and will get underway with a match between Hubli Tigers and Mangalore United. For the remaining games, the league will move to Bangalore in the upcoming weeks. There are a total of six teams and 34 matches will be played across 20 days for the prize. The first leg of the tournament will be played at Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadiyar Ground in Mysore which comprises a total of 18 matches. 

The second leg will be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Including the final, the second leg consists of 16 matches. The rising stars from the state will get a chance to perform in front of a crowded stadium and under floodlights during the second week of this grand T20 event. 

The coveted trophy and logo will be unveiled on Saturday by KSCA President Roger Binny, Secretary Santosh Menon, and Treasurer Vinay Mruthyunjaya. The KSCA Maharaja T20 trophy will replace the Karnataka premiere League (KPL) which is conducted every year. 

All six teams will compete at the inaugural edition of the KSCA Maharaja T20 trophy.

The players are divided into four categories

Players within the age bracket of 35 years will be eligible to take part in the Maharaja T20 trophy. The players of the Maharaja T20 trophy consist of four pools of gamers to be picked from. The pool consists of Category A, Category B, Category C, and Category D. 

  • Category A includes India and IPL gamers
  • Category B comprises senior state gamers (Karnataka State players)
  • Category C consists of U-25, U-23, and U-19 gamers (Karnataka Youth State Players)
  • Category D includes Emerging players

Once the team is formed the KSCA will nominate the captains and vice captains for each team and all teams will have a support staff.
