With no home advantage this year for the squads as per IPL guidelines this year. CSK players who are currently training in Chennai have planned to shift their training camps to Mumbai ahead of the Indian Premier League 2021.
“The CSK players completed their quarantine requirements and began practice yesterday. Gradually, the others will join the camp after a period of quarantine,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said.
Why are they suddenly changing camps?
This can be due to –BCCI not giving home advantage to any franchise this IPL.
After just weeks remaining for the main tournament the CSK team wants to get used to the changes of Mumbai ahead of the IPL, as CSK is starting off their matches in that particular ground, they have their 5 matches scheduled in Mumbai before moving on to the Delhi based grounds. In order to get used to the conditions of the playing grounds in Mumbai, the MS-Dhoni-led team has found a new strategy to mold their team according to the pitches.
As per the IPL schedule, they (Chennai SuperKings) will be playing five of their matches at Mumbai stadium – (Wankhede) in IPL 2021. Raina will also come straight to the camps of Mumbai to join his teammates, he is known to come home from UAE ahead of the start of IPL 2020 and skipping the entire last season. It was also said that the veteran will not be picked up, however with a show of trust they did not let him go.
Suresh Raina will therefore be linking with his teammates of Chennai and may go through seven days of quarantine after he set up his camps in Mumbai along with his yellow brigade members.
“We will definitely shift now. We are scheduled to leave for Mumbai by March 26,” CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan had told Inside Sport.
Punjab Kings Too – Changing Camps?
It is also worth mentioning that KL Rahul-led team Punjab Kings have also been contemplating shifting their training camps, says a report confirmed from KL Rahul’s team to InsiderSports.
Punjab Kings will play their first match of IPL 2021 against Rajasthan Royals on April 12, followed by the match against CSK on 16th April and Delhi Capitals on 18th of April. All of these games are scheduled to be played in Mumbai.
“Since it will be a long stay in a particular city, it’s prudent if we hold our camp near the venue of our initial matches. There is no point in camping in Mohali if our matches are in Mumbai. We will be camping in the city or nearabouts to acclimatize with the conditions,” Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon told InsideSport.co.
