The fight between two best ODI teams in the world was just spectacular in the first match of three match series. England won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, India started with sedate partnerships between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma and Dhawan and Kohli.

India won the match with a margin of 66 runs with the help of matured innings of Dhawan (98), Kohli (56) and bombasting innings of LK Rahul (62) and Krunal Pandya (58). With the help of their marvelous contributions India set a challenging score of 317 for 5.

England too got a wonderful start with the help of fire cracker show from Jason Roy (46) and Jonny Bairstow (94). England lost their first wicket after a 135 runs partnership in just 14.2 overs.

After the first wicket down England kept losing wickets consequently and no batsmen could manage to build partnership. Indian bowling attack was on fire after getting first success in the name of Jason Roy.

Debutant Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur impressed with their economical spells and four and three wickets hauls respectively. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was economical (3.30 in 9 overs) like always and clinched two wickets.

After getting punished by England’s mighty opening pair, Indian bowlers confined the whole team at 251 runs in 42.1 overs.

Injury Issues Would Cause Shuffle

During the first ODI some players got injured from both teams. From Indian side Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer and Sam Billings and Eoin Morgan from England side are susceptible to be included in playing eleven for second ODI to be played on March 26. Shreyas Iyer met a serious injury in his shoulder that can be a set back for him and Delhi Capitals as well.

In the absence of Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant can get spots in the playing eleven and we can see a new opening partner between KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav along with Dhawan.

Still both the teams have enough strength of potential players and spectacular even do or die efforts can be expected from the England team. England would try to take the series to the final.
