Three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) began their season on a winning note as they defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in a tight run-chase in the opening match of IPL 2020.
CSK’s bowling-attack was able to contend the Mumbai Indians’ star-studded batting line-up. On the batting front, Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu paced the innings brilliantly with some much-needed fireworks by Sam Curran in the end.
CSK will next face Rajasthan Royals, who will be without two of their key players. The English pair of Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler won’t be available for RR’s opening encounter. While Buttler is currently under quarantine, Stokes is still in New Zealand with his family. Their presence will certainly be missed by the Royals who have quite a bit to ponder about.
The pool of seasoned Rajasthan Royals players including Sanju Samson, Shreyas Gopal and Jaydev Unadkat will need to put their hand up to upset the mighty CSK.
Among the total 22 matches that have been played, CSK has managed to win 14, more than half of the total matches. With RR winning only 8 matches, CSK wins a bit easily, batting against this franchise.
Date: 22nd September 2020 (Tuesday)
Time: 7:30 PM IST.
Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah
Weather and pitch report: The pitch at Sharjah is a good one for batting and seems to be better than the tracks at the other two venues. At the same time, there is enough assistance on offer for the spinners and the pacers. The weather in Sharjah will be similar to the one in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The humidity levels will also be on the higher side. With no rain predicted, the weather will be hot and humid, looming around 38 degrees. As far as the pitch is concerned, it is all likely to assist the bowlers.
