Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals are the only three teams that have yet to claim the IPL title for the first time since its inception. “Ee Sala Cup Namde” has become an emotion for RCB fans. Two times they managed to reach finals but ended up as runner ups.
Royal Challengers Bangalore has been an underachiever over the years despite having outstanding players. RCB is always known for its batting lineup but they lack a good combination of bowling attack. RCB mostly depends on one or two players like Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers and lack genuine match winners.
Proteas stars Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers always perform very well for the franchise and have been among the most prolific run getters. But apart from them what does RCB need and which players have the potential to help the franchise to win IPL 2021?
Have a Look on Full RCB Squad
Batsmen: Virat Kohli (C), AB De Villiers, Finn Allen (WK), K. S Bharat, Devdutt Padikkal, Mohammed Azharuddeen (WK), Rajat Patidar, Sachin Baby.
All-rounders: Glen Maxwell, Dan Christian, Harshal Patel, Kyle Jamieson, Suyash Prabhudessai, Pavan Deshpande, Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar
Bowlers: Mohammed Siraj, Daniel Sams, Yuzvendra Chahal, Navdeep Saini, Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson.
In their 14th attempt to clinch the IPL trophy, RCB has some experienced and exceptional players like Kohli, De Villiers, Maxwell, Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Devdutt Padikkal taking the center stage.
RCB applied quite a good strategy in the 2021 auction as they got an attacking opener, Finn Allen and two all-rounders, Kyle Jamieson and Dan Christian. So, looking at the overall squad of RCB, a good combination in playing eleven would be there.
Lack of Strategy & Execution
Over the years there have been questions on RCB’s game strategy. It seems like they do not have any game plan to execute in the bowling department. They just deliver the balls to complete twenty overs instead of putting some pressure and convert that into wickets. Skipper Kohli might be well aware of the lack of a leading bowler that can guide and suggest others on the field but it is quite strange that RCB does not go for that quality of bowler in auction.
Determining Factors for RCB
While cricket is an unpredictable game there could be many factors that can decide the result of a match. If talking about IPL, every franchise makes their all efforts at various stages from auction to deciding playing eleven to win a game.
This year RCB went with a strategy to invest in reliable players. Like always, batting is still their strength but in IPL 2021 Glen Maxwell and Finn Allen can be the x-factor for them if they succeed to perform. Finn Allen is a striking opener and has the ability to destroy the opponent’s bowling attack in the first mandatory power play. Most Probably he will open with skipper Kohli or Maxwell. The duo of the openers will definitely manage to get a good start, build an innings, and put pressure on the fielding side.
Let’s talk about Glen Maxwell. No doubt he is a versatile all-rounder but looking at his recent year’s stats in the IPL, it seems like a gamble for RCB. His performance was quite impressive in 2014 and 2017 while playing for KXIP other than his performance in the IPL is not up to the mark over the years in comparison to the BBL and Australia.
Glen Maxwell gets a huge amount every year in auction from respective franchises and he is among the most unsustainable players who has played for four or more franchises. Every time franchises release him because of the poor performance compared to expectations. If this time he also fails, it will be a backfire for RCB.
Yuzvendra Chahal & Mohammed Siraj
Moving ahead, apart from Kohli and De Villiers, the most consistent and reliable duo for RCB, Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini are the key players who have the capabilities to juggle Points Table. All of them are front line bowlers with ample IPL and international T20 experience and provide strength to the fielding department as well.
All of them will definitely get a place in playing eleven for most of the matches. This bowling lineup is adaptive to the conditions and has the ability to bowl as per the demand of game situations.
Overall this time Royal Challengers Bangalore seems a more balanced team and a good combination of consistent, reliable, samshers, big hitters, disciplined spin and pace bowling lineup.
If RCB lacks in any department it would be pace bowling as they do not have an expert like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jofra Archer. We hope going against the odds this time RCB do well and everything falls in their favour that wins them the title.
